Notes from my first PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) networking event located at the new moovel Group North America headquarters in Portland.
The inagural Modern Data Management Summit attracted more than 300 data management leaders and practitioners who came together to learn, share, and network. The cross-industry participation from life science, healthcare, media, high technology, automotive, financial services, and consulting gave participants an opportunity to learn from best practices outside their market. With 39 sessions in two days, the event was a cornucopia of knowledge.
One of Reltio's values is fun! A boy did we have fun today at Gokart in Burlingame. The Reltio Marketing and Product Management team put "pedal to the metal" in a semi-serious racetrack with GoKarts that hit 20 to 25 miles an hour.
I’m sure many of you reading this blog post may have had similar experiences if you, as the Knight said to Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade, “Chose Wisely”. Some of it of course is pure luck, and finding a lifestyle changing event like those employees at Instagram, WhatsApp, and other very profitable acquisition and exits, is always a long shot. But while you may not be fortunate enough to hit a home run and retire, following a few simple steps might help you find an opportunity that can be both personally and financially rewarding.
For many – particularly those in the early stages of their careers – it’s more important to choose your boss than to choose the company you may be considering. Having a mentor that is supportive and not threatened by your success is key. As legendary business guru Tom Peters once wrote, “Leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders.” That’s worth a million perks.
As 2014 draws to a close, I can't help but reflect on how fortunate Reltio has been. We've been blessed with the confidence entrusted to us by customer and partners alike. From multi-billion dollar enterprises to emerging startups who rely on us to help them improve the reliability of their data and deliver relevant information to their business teams, to partners who view us as a key part of their future strategy.
We have developed friendships with both IT and business teams. Through our belief that all stakeholders in the information chain must collaborate together to enrich data. Along the way, we have been selected over a wide variety of excellent products, all with their merits but each missing elements that made them unable to meet the needs of our customers and partners.
